Cardiff has no shortage of web designers, and if you've asked three of them for a quote, you've probably already noticed the numbers don't agree with each other. That's not one of them ripping you off. It usually just means they're pricing different jobs.
What a website actually costs
- A single conversion-focused landing page: roughly £200–£400
- A multi-page business website (around 5 pages, proper SEO foundations): roughly £400–£900
- A larger custom-built site (10+ pages, content strategy, advanced SEO): roughly £700–£2,000+
- A custom booking system, customer portal, or other bespoke functionality: quoted individually, usually starting from around £1,500
Those figures assume a fixed price. If someone offers an open-ended day rate instead and says they'll "see where it lands," that's the quote to be cautious about, not whichever fixed number looks highest on paper.
Why the numbers spread so far apart
It almost always comes down to three things: how many pages you actually need, whether the build is hand-coded or template-based, and how much SEO and copywriting gets bundled in versus billed as an extra. A £300 quote and a £3,000 quote can both be fair — they're just quotes for two different jobs, and most people never get told that.
What to ask before you sign anything
- Is this a fixed price, or does it change if the project runs long?
- How many rounds of revisions are included?
- Do I own the website outright once it's built?
- Is basic on-page SEO included, or is that a separate line item?
We publish our own package prices for exactly this reason. If you're comparing quotes for website design in Cardiff, having one real fixed number to measure the others against makes the whole process a lot less confusing.
